Chair Professor Chunmiao Zheng’s Research Group at Eastern Institute of Technology, Ningbo

The research group led by Chair Professor Chunmiao Zheng at Eastern Institute of Technology, Ningbo, is recruiting postdoctoral researchers in the field of marine science and engineering. The research focuses on ship and ocean engineering, artificial intelligence, clean energy systems, wind energy and carbon reduction processes, numerical simulations, and the application of big data analytics and machine learning in marine engineering.
Basic Qualifications:
- A strong passion for scientific research, academic integrity, a strong sense of responsibility, good team spirit, and the ability to think independently and solve scientific problems actively;
- A Ph.D. degree obtained within the past 3 years (or expected soon) from a well-recognized university in ship and ocean engineering, transportation engineering, artificial intelligence, clean energy systems, wind energy and carbon reduction processes, numerical simulation, or related disciplines;
- Experience in AIS data mining and familiarity with CFD simulation software are preferred;
- Solid academic background with strong independent research ability;
- Preference will be given to candidates with at least two high-quality first-author or corresponding-author publications, or who have led national/provincial research projects;
- Strong proficiency in English reading, writing, and communication; excellent collaboration and coordination skills.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist the team in ongoing research projects;
- Work with the PI to develop research plans and independently carry out research tasks, aiming to publish high-level academic papers;
- Assist in applying for national and local research grants, and actively apply for postdoctoral and youth funding;
- Help mentor Ph.D., master’s, and undergraduate students in the group.
Salary and Benefits
- Annual pre-tax salary of RMB 400,000;
- Outstanding candidates may be appointed as ‘Presidential Excellent Postdocs’ with an annual salary of RMB 600,000 (including local government living subsidies);
- Full social insurance and housing fund coverage, paid annual leave, holiday benefits, and priority support for applying for government-subsidized apartments (move-in ready);
- Eligible to apply for up to RMB 200,000 in research start-up funding from the local government during the postdoc period;
- For those who obtain support from the National Natural Science Foundation of China (NSFC), China Postdoctoral Science Foundation, or provincial-level funding schemes, Ningbo Municipal Government will provide 1:1 matching funds;
- Postdocs who stay and work in Ningbo after completion of their contract are eligible for up to RMB 600,000 in relocation subsidies.

About the Team
Professor Chunmiao Zheng is the vice president of Eastern Institute of Technology, Ningbo. He is a Fellow of the American Geophysical Union (AGU), Director of the National Key Laboratory of Integrated Prevention and Control for Surface Water–Groundwater Pollution in Watersheds, Chair of the Committee on Ecogeological Environment under the Chinese Society for Environmental Sciences, and Founding Editor-in-Chief of the international journal Sustainable Horizons.
He has published over 500 SCI-indexed papers, authored 6 books, and has more than 34,000 citations on Google Scholar. He has been named a Clarivate Highly Cited Researcher.
His academic honors include the O.E. Meinzer Award and the Birdsall-Dreiss Distinguished Lectureship from the Geological Society of America (GSA), as well as the M. King Hubbert Award and John Hem Award from the National Ground Water Association (NGWA). In 2024, he received one of the world’s three major international water awards: the Prince Sultan Bin Abdulaziz International Prize for Water (PSIPW).
In recent years, Professor Zheng’s team has undertaken multiple national and provincial-level major projects in marine engineering, as well as collaborations with industry partners. Their research has been published in top international journals such as Applied Energy and Ocean Engineering, and the group has established a strong international research network and platform.
